Also counted there was 20year old Alex Ba rtholomew. The three older boys and Alex werelaborers. The Houston fa mily lived next door, on the other side wereHammels.

Joseph, 61,wa s still farming and had amassed property valued at $5000/1200.Wife Ma ry was 57, children in the house were Mary, 22, Sue, 11, andMary, 7. M ary was probably a granddaughter. Both Joseph and Marywere born in MD . The family lived between son Benjamin and HenrySmith (Mary's brothe r?). Possibly a nephew, Perry Smith was justbeyond Benjamin.
6/29/1870 Goshen Twp, PO New Philadelphia, Tuscarawas Co, OH. By age7 1 at census time that year Joseh "Grundy" had increased his propertyva luation to $10,200/1100, a huge amount for the day. He was stillfarmi ng, wife Mary was 62. Living with them was Mary A, 17.
6/22/1880 Goshen Twp, Tuscarawas Co, OH. At census time he wasliving w ith son Henry's family. He was still farming at age 81. SonBenjamin w as 3 doors down the road.
According to FindaGrave, there are, besides Joseph Jr, two otherJoseph G undys buried there but it seems birth and death dates havebeen mixed a mong all three.
