His family included a long list of "Brethren, Amish, or Mennoniteminis ters and at least one bishop." His father's lineage was traced"back t o Hans Zaugg, born about 1630, who was a prominent preacher inthe Anab aptist movement." and "preached separation of church andstate, and non resistance."
