1859 Jonathan Creek Twp, Moultrie Co, IL Frank came to IL to look
after some land his father had purchased, having no intention of
staying. However, he remained at Jonathan Creek during the Civil War,
met his future wife and married shortly after the war, staying
permanently.
The county history carried his biography, describing him as "one of
the active and energetic farmers of the township, and owns 626 acres
of land, of which 619 lie in one body. He has also been engaged in
raising cattle and trading in stock.....In his politics, his father
was an old Line Whig, and Mr. McDonald began life in sympathy with
that organization, but on the dissolution of the Whig party became a
Democrat, and voted first for Breckenridge in 1860. In local
elections he very frequently votes for the man whom he considers best
fitted for the office."
