Notes for Sarah "Sally" HARBAUGH


Sarah came to Illinois with her parents, Mr and Mrs jacob harbaugh, 4b rothers, 2 sisters, her grandfather, James Paterson, and severalaunts a nd uncles. They arrived in Edgar Co in 1828, then on toShelby Co in t he spring of 1832. "Her parents made a home in thewilderness on a tra ct of land now within the southeastern limits ofSullivan and there liv ed to a ripe old age."

She was a charter member of the Sullivan Christian church and "wasalwa ys a faithful and consistent Christian and a woman of noblecharacter."

In the 1850 census, her mother was living with her brother, JohnHarbau gh.

4/6/1892, Sarah signed an affidavit for cousin, Eveline Powell, widowo f James, in her application for a Widow's Pension.

In 1900, she lived alone on Madison St, in Sullivan at census time.She w as 78.

In 1910 she was 88 years old, still in Sullivan.
Her death occurred at the home of daughter, Angeline Wright. Herobitu ary said "death came to her peacefully and without pain, afitting endi ng of a long and useful life."

Funeral services were held at the Christian Church in Sullivan with
Rev J.W. Mathers delivering "the funeral discouse." He was assisted
by Rev Cory of the Presbyterian church. Music was furnished by a
quartet. Pallbearers were all grandchildren: Cash Green, Walter,
James and Homer Wright, Frank and Charles McDonald.
