1880 Jonathan Creek, Moultrie Co, IL. He was living 5 doors downfrom J ames and Evaline Powell, having bought the property from them.Also lis ted was a servant girl.
1900 Sullivan Twp, Moultrie Co, IL. In the census, Daisy and Simonwe re the only children still at home, James was a farmer, the farmbeing m ortgage free.
3/24/1904 He and W C Carwood, undertaker in charge, gave affidavitfo r Elizabeth Powell, widow of Nelson, in her application for widow'spen sion that "they lived near neighbors for several years and wereintimat ely acquainted. That they were at the funeral and burialservices of Ne lson E Powell, and viewed the dead body in the casket."
The 1900 census lists his birthdate as 12/1847. Son Charles told the1 910 census that his father was born in Germany.
His obituary stated:
"James Bathe, one of the best known retired farmers of this
vicinity, and a veteran of the war of the Rebellion, died at his home
Wednesday. Mr. Bathe had the distinction of serving in Grant's
regiment during the War of the Rebellion, and was the last survivor of
that regiment."
