Also in 1839 she was listed as Rachel Patterson (David Patterson wasco -administrator), plaintiff, in a court suit against the heirs ofhusban d, John Powell, probably when she petitioned to sell his landto settle t he estate.

8/1/1860 KS Territory, Linn Co, KS. How and why Rachel moved west isu nknown but at census time she was living with the young family of I.an d Lucinda Cassidy there. (It is unlikely Lucinda was a daughter asshe w as born in RI.) At that time Rachel was 55, her property haddwindled t o $30, still at home with her were and sons George, 24, andNelson, 22.

She was 20-30 years old in 1830 and assuming the 1850 census is her,sh e was born in 1804 in KY. Therefore she was not the mother ofJames, b orn 1800.

Her gravestone only states she died in her 67th year. Buried besidehe r are daughter and son-in-law, Rachel and J.N. Martin.
