William was a Quaker but his children must have been a heartache forhi m and Isabell as every one of them got in trouble with the societyfor o ne thing or another. Many were excommunicated as recorded inthe month ly meeting minutes. See the children's notes.

Wayne Co, IN William's father came to IN in 1807 and claimed largetra cts of land in Wayne Co but died before settling there. Williaminheri ted a quarter and also owned the quarter west of his father'ssite, the t wo quarters covering nearly all the site on whichCambridge
City was built. He laid out the town, as well as Vandalia.
He and his brother were described as influential citizens of the area.
1820 Wayne Co, IN. According to the census that year William wasaged 2 6-45 and had living with him 1 male at 10-16 (who?) and 1female, also 1 0-16 (Isabell would have been 18?).
1830 Jackson Twp, Wayne Co, IN. At census time there were living inh is house: 3 males under 5, 2 males 10-15, 1 male 30-40, 1 femaleunder 5 , 1 female 5-10, 2 females 20-30. Down the road was Isabell'sbrother S imon.
1840 Same residence. In the census his family consisted of 2 malesun der 5, 2 males 10-15, 1 male 15-20, 1 male 20-30, 1 male 50-60, 1femal e 5-10, 1 female 10-15, and 1 female 30-40.
1850 Cambridge City, Wayne Co, IN. William was a wealthy farmer atce nsus time, his property totaling $15,000. He was 61 years old,Isabel w as 50 and children living with them were Simon, 22, Nathan,20, Tamar, 1 6, William, 15, and Samuel, 6. Also there was 30 yearold Abraham Brit ton, black, possibly farm hand.
The 1850 census said he was 61, making his birth year 1788.
