Herman bought a horse named Spike which he owned for at least 31years. S everal pictures were taken of the two of them together.

1968 Los Angeles, CA. Herman and Spike lived with a Mrs. Ray Rankin( relationship unknown but possibly a niece) the last few years oftheir l ives prior to Herman's admission to a nursing home. Spike, atage 34, h elped blow out the candles on Herman's 93rd birthday cake.
