12/18/1897 Cadwell, Moultrie Co, IL. Curg was the postmaster for ali ttle over a year. Three years later, Uncle Nelson E, would takethe po sition.

6/4/1900 Okaw Twp, Shelby Co, Il. According to the census that year,L ycurgus was 28, Jessie was 25. They had been married 6 years wit 2chi ldren, both living, James K, 5, and Dorris V, 3. George Johnson,50, h ired hand lived with the family. Curg's occupation looks liketanner b ut it may have been farmer>

1901 Shelbyville, Shelby Co, IL. The wedding of his cousin, JoeHeber don Powell, to Pearl Gannaway was held at his home there in1901. His c hildren attended the Shelbyville schools with Dorisgraduating in 1914.

4/20/1910 Arthur, Lowe Twp, Moultrie Co, IL. Having moved before then ext census, Lycurgus was 38 years old and employed as a wholesalegrain d ealer. He and Jessie, 39, had been married 16 years with 2children Ja mes R, 14, and Doris V, 12.

1910 Arthur, Douglas Co, IL, where he bought part interest in thegrai n elevator on the east side of town which he ran for severalyears. Ap parently the family moved back to Shelby Co as his childrenclaimed She lbyville as home during this same period. His obituarystates:

"Mr. Powell is a former Arthur resident. He operated grain elevatorsi n this section for many years."

1915 Duvall, Shelby Co, IL, was his residence when niece, Ivy Rigney,d ied. An article on his son, Ray, said he was a junior partner withhis f ather in the grain and general merchandise business at Duvall, 5miles n orth of Shelbyville, the partnership dating from Ray's returnfrom WWI i n 1919.

1/2/1920 Shelbyville, Shelby Co, IL was where the next census takerfo und the family. He was 48 and a grain dealer with his ownelevator. Je ssie was 44 and daughter Doris was 22.

1926 He was still at the same residence at reunion time per Powellreu nion minutes.

1931 Springfield, Sangamon Co, IL, was his address at reunion timewhe n he signed the roster.

1941 Washington, DC
His obituary says he died in Washington but cemetery records say NJ.
He was actually living with his daughter who had lived in Washington
DC for years but may have moved to the suburbs sometime before his
death.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon, place and other
details were not given.
