SULLIVAN -- Gilbert R. 'Gil' Crawford, 90, of Sullivan, died 3:10 p.m.T hursday (July 9, 2009) in Mason Point, Sullivan. Celebration of Lifese rvices will be 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Reed Funeral Home, Sullivanwit h the Rev. Rebecca Ingram officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m.Sund ay. Burial will be in the Greenhill Cemetery, Sullivan withmilitary ri tes conducted by the Sullivan American Legion Post 68.Memorials are su ggested to the Sullivan First Christian Church or theMoultrie County C hapter of the American Cancer Society. Condolencesmay be sent to the f amily at reedfuneralhome.net. Gil was born May 8,1919 in Clinton, the s on of Gilbert R. and Joyce Gustin Crawford. Hefarmed for many years in t he Sullivan area, was a U. S. Navy veteranof WW II, member of the Sull ivan First Christian Church, life memberof the Sullivan American Legio n Post 68 and a past member of theMoultrie County Farm Bureau. Gil had s erved on the Sullivan SchoolBoard, Coles-Moultrie Electric Co-op Board , a director on the SoylandCo-op Board and had served as secretary and t reasurer of theMoultrie-Sullivan Junior Fair Board for many years. He e njoyedplaying golf and visiting with family and friends. Gil married M arianPowell on June 16, 1943 in the Jonathan Creek Christian Church, Sullivan. Surviving are his children, Greg (Lynn) Crawford ofMonticello , Eric 'Rick' (Lucille) Crawford, Sharon (Dave) Walker,Dale (Suzy) Cra wford and Janis (Don) Typer all of Sullivan;grandchildren, Brian Crawf ord, Stacy Essinger, Shelly Crawford-Stock,Brett Walker, Matt Crawford , Heidi Grooms, Ryan Crawford, ChrisCrawford, Andrew Crawford, Chance T yper, Tanner Typer and eight greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in de ath by his parents and a brother,Louis. The family feels truly blessed t o have had such a wonderful,loving husband, father, grandfather, and g reat grandfather for thepast 90 years.
