Notes for Clarence Walker "CW" VAN GUNDY


According to a letter by brother, Everett, CW enlised in WWI whilestil l a student in high school, was wounded severely enough to bedischarge d and sent home. This has been disputed by descendants whosaid he was n ever in the war and the injury was the result of playingfootball.

Residences & events:

1930 South Macon Twp, Macon Co, IL. The census that year recordedCla rence at 29 years of age, Alma was 31. The household includedchildren : Rosemary, 4 and CW Jr, 2. Clarence was a grain dealer atan elevato r.

1938 Macon Co, IL. Following the death of his mother, he and thefami ly moved in with his father.

Spring 1939 Arcola, Douglas Co, IL. Either his father remarried orth e family decided he could care for himself so CW's family movedout.

CW worked at the Williams Grain company at Filson, IL, eventuallybuyin g it in 1943, renaming it the VanGundy Grain Co.
