10/16/1850 Scott Co, IL. At census time John and Mary were livingnex t door to Mary's parents. John was recorded at age 26 and Marywas 24. C hildren at the time were Martha A, 2, and Mahala J, 9 mo.Living with t hem was Mary's orphaned cousin, John Coonrod, 10, whomthey raised. Jo hn's property was worth $1000, all real estate.

1854 Logan Co, IL, when daughter, Catherine died. While there he andm uch of his family were members of the Bethel Christian Church andhe, a s well as sons, Peter and Theodore, served in several publicoffices.

1855 Logan Co, IL. The state census verified their residence.

7/14/1860 Prairie Creek Twp, Logan Co, IL. His property had grown to$ 5000/1000 and he was still farming. John was 38, Mary was 35 andtheir c hildren at that time were: Martha, 13; M J, 10; Peter, 5;Theodore, 3: a nd J J, 6 mo. They had 2 farm hands living with them,Ben Hunter, 15, a nd Jesse Seelve, 22. Next door was his brother'sfamily.

6/21/1862 John was elected as the first Vice President of theteachers o rganization.

1865-1869 He served as County Justice.

6/24/1870 Orvil Twp, Logan Co, IL The census said he was a 47 yearol d farmer with property = $3000/800 and 4 children still at home:Mahala , 20, Peter, 15, Theodore, and Ada B, 8. Mary was 45 andliving with t hem was J U Coonrod, 28, probably John, came home towork on the farm.

1873 Orvil Twp, Logan Co, IL. John was chosen as HighwayCommissioner .

1880 Boynton, Tazewell Co, IL was the family's residence by the nextce nsus time. He and Mary Jane had only 2 children still at home,Peter, 2 3 and Ada, 18. A Benjamin Coan, 24, also lived there as afarm hand. T wo doors down was the family of son, Theodore.

6/11/1900 Same place. At census time son Peter was head of the housea nd probably had taken over the management of his father's farm sinceJo hn had no occupation. John A was 78, Mary J was 75 and they hadbeen m arried 55 years with 11 children, only 5 of whom stillsurvived. Daught er Ada B, 38, also lived there.
