Notes for Thomas Payne Sr POWELL


Thomas was not listed with this family in the book of Powell Familieso f Virginia and the South.

He and his brother, Simon, marched with Gen George Washington in theca mpaign to take Ft Duquesne (present site of Pittsburg, PA) from theFre nch in 1758, Thomas being under William Byrd, Simon under CaptHogg.

Late 1780 Orange Co, KY Thomas was drafted into service in the RevWa r but son Ambrose stepped up as his substitute and served 3 months.

1783 St Thomas' Parish, Orange Co, VA, was his residence when he gaveh is consent for son, Ambrose, to marry.

1785 His name appeared on tax rolls that year.

1789 Clark Co, KY. He was listed in the 1795 census and hisdaughter, E lizabeth was married there in 1794.

1/11/1790 Fayette Co, KY. Thomas and son, Ambrose, were listed onthe t ax list this date and both 1791 and 1792.

1800 Clark Co, KY. Thomas and 3 sons, Ambrosse, Simon, and Thomas,Jr , were taxed in this county.

10/17/1808 Thomas was exempted from county taxes (levy) due to thisag e and infirmities. He died a few months later.

1809 Estill Co, KY. His estate was settled there. He may have beenl iving with relatives in his old age, perhaps son, Ambrose.
2/1809 Thomas, Jr, and son-in-law Micajah Hall, were appointedadminist rators of his estate by the Court. An inventory was orderedon 2/12/18 09.
