Sister, Nancy, was his twin. He was a 50 year member of the Christianc hurch.

7/28/1870 Marion Twp, Mercer Co, MO. He was a farmer at census timew ith a new wife and baby. He was 21, wife Julia was 18, while Mary Cwa s 5 mo. They lived between brother John and George Calvin.

6/1/1880 Medicine Twp, Mercer Co, MO, was where he was listed in thec ensus with his first wife and family. He was 32, still farming,Julia w as 29. Their children were Mary C, 10;, John Eugene, 8, andBird D, 4.

Princeton, Mercer Co, MO, where it seems he remained the rest of hisli fe.
There may be a birth discrepancy: his obituary said he was born inShe lby Co, IL, but the 1880 census says he was born in IN, andcemetery re cords recorded his dates as 1838-1928.

B. F. Powell dies Monday, May 7th
Was a Pioneer of the County, Having lived here 74 yrs. Last of theFami ly of Moses Powell

Benjamin Franklin Powell was born in Shelby County, Ill., June 23,1848 ; died at the home of his son, John E. Powell in Princeton, Mo.May 7, 1 928. His age at death was 79 years, 10 months and 14 days.He moved wi th his parents to Mercer County, Mo., in an ox wagon, whenhe was five y ears of age. He was married to Julia A. Shook, February28, 1869. The re were four children born to them: Mary Collings,living east of Princ eton; John E. Powell of Princeton; Byrd S. Powellof Kansas City; and J oseph E. Powell, who died in infancy. Themother, Julia A. died July 1 0, 1885, at the age of 35 years. He wasmarried the second time to Eli zabeth Pickett in 1882. To this unionwas born Franklin Hudson Powell, w ho lives near Ravenna, Mo.

Mr. Powell united with the Christian church under the ministry of Bro.L ockhart, more than fifty years ago. They later moved theirmembership t o the Christian church in Princeton. He was a man whoalways lived a c lean life. He never used any bad language. His deathmarks the passing o f the last child of the large family of MosesPowell. Besides the wife a nd children already named, he leaves onehalf-sister, Mrs. Susan Rose, S eibert, Colorado,
nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

It was our good fortune to have known him long and well, and we onlykn ew him to esteem him more highly as the years passed by. In hisearlie r years he was noted for his kindness and helpfulness to thosein sickn ess or distress, and he would often be found in the longhours of the n ight keeping watch at the bedside of a sick neighbor.He visited the s ick, cared for the widow and orphan, and kept himselfunspotted from th e world.

The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Christianc hurch, conducted by the Rev. C. E. Nichols, pastor; interment was inth e Collings cemetery.

First wife, Julia, has a stone in Collings Cemetery but he and his 2nd
wife have only foot markers.
