Maurice was a farmer north of Mattoon where they lived all of theirmar ried lives.

At family gatherings he would play the bass fiddle while Eloise playedt he accordian.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Maurice V. Ashworth, 97, of Cape Girardeau,Misso uri, formerly of Mattoon, passed away at 12:50 p.m. on Monday,Septembe r 27, 2010, at the Chateau Girardeau Nursing Home. Funeralservices hon oring his life will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday,October 2, 2010 at t he Schilling Funeral Home, 1301 Charleston Ave.,Mattoon, with Reverend R on Spell and Reverend Geoff Posegateofficiating. Burial will follow in t he Rest Haven Memorial Gardens inMattoon. Visitation for family and fr iends will be held prior toservices beginning 9:30 a.m. at the funeral h ome. Maurice was bornOctober 21, 1912 in Mattoon, a son of George S. a nd Agatha M.(Fleshner) Ashworth. He married M. Eloise Arthur on June 1 , 1936 inCharleston, Illinois. She survives Survivors include his wife E loiseof Cape Girardeau, Missouri; his son Rex Ashworth and wife Christ y ofByron; his daughter Patty Ginder of Sikeston, Missouri; four grandchildren, Jason Ginder and wife Billie, Joshua Ginder and wife Misty,b oth of Sikeston, Michael and Meaghan Ashworth of Byron; twogreat-grand children Jon and Addison Ginder of Sikeston, Missouri. Hewas preceded i n death by his brothers, Maynard and Donald Ashworth,one infant sister a nd son-in-law, Richard Ginder. Maurice was activein farming and garden ing all of his life. He was of the originalmembers of the REA board an d was a drainage ditch commissioner forNorth Okaw Twp. He was a member o f Broadway Christian Church inMattoon and after moving to Sikeston in 2 003 to be closer to family,he joined Wesley United Methodist Church. MATTOON - The funeral for Maurice V. Ashworth was Saturday at theSchil ling Funeral Home in Mattoon with the Rev. Ron Spell and theRev. Geoff P osegate officiating. Jon Ginder played an unnamedcomposition. Jeff Tho rton sang "Life's Railroad." The pallbearerswere Rick Copeland, Dick A shworth, Bill Thornton, Michael Ashworth,Jason Ginder and Joshua Ginde r. Mr. Ashworth of Cape Girardeau, Mo.,formerly of Mattoon, died Sept. 2 7, 2010, at the Chateau GirardeauNursing Home.
