His obituary states: "Mr. Powell, a pioneer in the development of theJ ersey cattle breed in Moultrie County.....was a past president ofthe c ounty's Jersey Cattle Club and was known for his participationin state a nd county fair livestock shows. He was also active in theevents of th e Farmers Institute.
He was a member of the Christian Church in Sullivan."
He lived at Sullivan all of his life. (The reunion roster of 1943list ed him at Ashmore, IL.)
In the 1900 census he was living with the family of cousin, AnselPurvi s Powell.
5/16/1910 Sullivan Twp, Moultrie Co, IL was where the census takerfou nd the family. Jesse was 37 years old, Ruth was 29 , and daughterFern w as 5. Jesse's occupation was general farmer. They lived justdown the r oad from Robert and Edna Van Gundy.
He had been in the hospital about 4 days when he died.
His funeral was in the McMullin Funeral Home with Rev Donald Frantz
officiating. Hubert Powell was among the pallbearers.
