He served in the Civil War as a Pvt in Co A 54th IL Inf. He receiveda p ension for his service and his wife received a widow's pension.
Following the war he moved to Christian Co, IL, and began buying landi n 10-20 acre plots which he continued for the next 50 years and, bythe t ime he died, had a good-sized farm.
He was killed by a gunshot fired by an unknown person.
