Sarah Lowry, b. July 21, 1745; d. May 3, 1819. It is said that shebeca me engaged to George Stubblefield, son of George, when aboutfifteen ye ars of age. To prevent her early marriage, her father senther to schoo l 600 miles from home. Later she returned home andmarried Col. Raleigh D angerfield, and had six children, all of whomdied in infancy. Two year s after his death, she married her firstlove, George Stubblefield. He b ecame a Captain in the RevolutionaryArmy, and his orderly book is amon g the printed records of theVirginia Historical Society. Before the cl ose of the War, he rose tothe rank of Major. While he was away with th e Revolutionary Army, theBritish soldiers persecuted his wife, who, wi th her children, wasobliged to flee from her home. Her children were,- -William TabbStubblefield (m. Susan Cannon), John Lowry Stubblefield ( m. FannyJones), and Martha Peyton Subblefield, m. Bushrod Taylor.
