"First, of all, having done considerable primary document research one xtant records, I now strongly suspect that the oft-repeatedassertion t hat John Mask married a Mary (Jane) Christian is a myth. Icannot find a ny evidence of this marriage in any of the records, fromeither family' s perspective. Perhaps, then, I should point out thatthe "Christian Fa mily Chronicles," July 1983, Vol. X, pp. 843-844,dealt with this very s ame subject, and provided evidence that JohnMask, in fact, was married t o an Elizabeth (?), and that the originalsource of the John Mask-Mary C hristian lore was an article in theRichmond "Times-Dispatch" (1904) wh ich simply made the assertion andprovided no proof or evidence of the c laim."
