Their wedding festivities were reported by the newspaper, complete
with a photo of the couple and her parents:
"A two-day fiesta celebrated the wedding of Helen Williams, daughter
of famed cowboy cartoonist, J.R. Williams, to James Purvis, former
All-America Purdue University halfback. Left, the bride, bridegroom,
and Mr. and Mrs. Williams at their 4-K ranch near Prescott, Ariz.
Purvis and his bride met last winter in Los Angeles, where the
Williamses spend their winters. They will make their home at the
ranch, it having been announced by Mr. Williams that his son-in-law
will take over the management of the ranch property, a 45,000-acre
affair with about 800 head of cattle, forty-five horses, a swimming
pool, a concrete tennis court and a lake. Artist Williams, who is
often referred to as the 'Will Rogers of the comic art field,' is
famed around the world for his 'Out Our Way' cartoons which appear
daily in The Capital."
However, the marriage didn't last long as he remarried 4 years later.
