8/11/1870 Paradise Twp, Coles Co, IL. At census time he was a 19 year old farm laborer, wife Ellen was 21. No children were listed. Next door neighbors were the Trembles and Michaels. On the next page of the census was half-sister Louisa and James Vandeventer while brother Hiram was one page farther.
6/23/1880 Marshall Ave, Mattoon, Coles Co, IL. Descendants said they moved south in 1879 but in view of this entry, it was later. They were listed in the census, Isaac at age 25 (he hadn't aged much in 10 years!), Jane was 22. They had only 2 daughters at that time, Clarissa, 7, and Hattie, 1, (where was Nellie?) Isaac was a machinist. Someone also told the census taker that Isaac and both parents were born in OH while Jane and her parents were all born in TN.
1887-1900 Between the birth of son Harry and the next census, the family moved south.
6/26/1900 Springpoint Twp, Cumberland Co, IL was their residence by the next census time. The census taker recorded his name as Isic, 48, with wife Anna J, also 43. They both married for the first time at age 22, she had birthed 9 children, all surviving. Living with them were Fred A, 17, Bertha, 15, Harry, 12, Ida, 9, Hester, 5, Ramon, 4, and Lesley, 2. Isaac was a farmer.
4/30/1910 Same place. At census time Isaac, 57, had been married 31 years to Jane, 53, with 9 children, all living. Living with them were Hester, 15, Ray, 14, and Leslie, 12. Isaac was a general farmer. Down the road was an Elder family (nephew of first wife?)
1/8/1920 Same place. Listed as Issac in the census at age 67, he was a general farmer. His wife was listed as Mary Jane, 62, and living with them were sons, Raymond, 23, and Leslie, 22, and granddaughter, Beulah Williams.
1922 Jewett, Cumberland Co, IL.
Isaac died of apoplexy, contributed to by arteriosclerosis.
The cemetery is located 3 mi W of Montrose, IL, 1 1/2 mi N of Rte 40 &
I70. Cumberland Co courthouse records say he is buried at Elliott
